Popular belief has it that the universe is comprised of atoms. In reality, the universe is actually made up of…

Bailey didn’t remember the accident or being thrown clear of the car into the nearby bushes, and he was unconscious when his person was taken away in an ambulance. All he knew, when he came to, was that he was all alone, far away from home.
The concept and passage of time was slightly different for Bailey, so as the rain on his brow beat a rhythm unlocking the past, he sat at the scene of the accident, “good boy” style, in a puddle of memories, waiting faithfully for his human’s return.

This is too sad.
I feel sorry for Bailey and his newly acquired loneliness.
‘Good boy style’ – this just rips at the heart.
I hope the rain refreshes Bailey’s memory, and he’s able to find his way home.
Or maybe when the human recovers, he or she will search for lost Bailey.
But if it’s the end of the road, then I hope Bailey finds a new home.

I will not burst your bubble of hope with the way I envisioned the story’s conclusion. It will be a Schrödinger’s cat ending where we, the reader, are in the superposition and the human is both alive and dead at the same time.

Read all about Schrodinger’s cat. Yes, it is like that.
