Popular belief has it that the universe is comprised of atoms. In reality, the universe is actually made up of…
They come at night during the Hour of the Wolf, that gap between night and dawn when most people perish, when the sleepless are haunted by their deepest fear, when nightmares become flesh, and when ghosts are at the zenith of their power.
When they were alive they were families and neighbors who came to each other’s aid and fought for peace and tragically lost the battle before that peace had been established.
Now, these tortured souls step each pre-dawn from the void of the hereafter to remind us of how far we still must travel.

Rhyan,
This is so spooky.
‘When they were alive they were families and neighbors who came to each other’s aid and fought for peace and tragically lost the battle before that peace had been established.’
These lines really hit me.
Isn’t life simply a farce? As long as you’re here, it’s projected as peaches and cream, which of course it’s definitely not. And afterwards, who knows, like you say, languishing around for maybe ‘forever’.
If there’s still a long way to go, then please count me out of this. I want nothing to do with it. Don’t mind me, I like minding my own business and will love a complete check-out at the end, no strings attached whatsoever.
I like this tiny story. Very much. Wonderfully written. 🙂

While management respects your right to tick the Opt Out Returning From The Void box, the simple truth is that although you divorce yourself from the long, uphill battle to bring about peace even after your inevitable demise…the restless undead may not be done with you, so good luck with your avoidance. I hope they respect your wishes (you may want to have a back-up plan, just in case).

Lol. I’ll take your word on that. Have to prepare for the realm of the undead. I can barely manage the world of the living. Great advice! 🙂
